What if There Really was a War and We Pretended it was Peace?
Albert Einstein once defined insanity as performing the same experiment over and over with the expectation that eventually the results will change. Clearly the Israeli and American governments fulfill that definition as they continue to engage in, what they choose to call, a “peace” process.
Back in 1948, when the League of Nations agreed to the partition plan which granted recognition to a tiny part of what is today the Jewish State, the Jews accepted this precarious agreement, while the Arabs attacked us with the intent to wipe out the tiny new Jewish State. This was the beginning of the War of Independence. While many may choose not to believe it, this war is still going on. Israel has chosen not to win this war, rather to maintain the status quo. Believe it or not, the war is winnable. But when you have leaders who choose not to recognize the war it is nearly impossible to win it.
What is terror? How can anyone believe that terror is enacted only by criminals and insane haters. Terror is a method of warfare. Instead of treating every terrorist attack as if it were an individual criminal act, it should be responded to as the act of war it truly is. President Bush did not accept 9/11 as a criminal act. He sought to fight a war against the perpetrators. That is a normal reaction. In Israel we like to pretend that we are not at war even as our enemies attack us. This is insanity.
Our leadership really believes that we can make peace with those who seek our destruction if we only give up parts of our homeland to them. The questions which they choose not to think about are: “Why was there a war in 1948 when they had far more Jewish land then they claim they want today?” And, “Why was there a war in 1967 when they had all of Judea, Samaria and Gaza?” And, “Why didn’t they establish the PLO state in those lands when they were in Arab hands?” If the Arabs themselves refused to build “Palestine” when all of those territories were in their hands, why do Jewish leaders think we need to do so now?
Ariel Sharon claimed that we could achieve peace by unilaterally abandoning Gaza to our enemies. He wasn’t stupid. He was a liar. If he really believed that peace would be the result why did he insist upon uprooting all of the Jewish communities in Gaza, as well as digging up all of the Jewish graves there to re bury the dead elsewhere? Clearly he knew exactly how much our enemies would appreciate his magnanimity.
And what about Bibi? Is he stupid? Or is he too a liar? What exactly is he planning to do in order to create peace? What does he think he possesses that he can use to purchase peace with those who seek our complete destruction? He watches as our enemies continue to demonstrate that they are at war with us, and he dares to suggest that we show restraint while he tries to curry favor with our murderers! Stupidity is simply too kind a word for such behavior. Treason is more accurate. He smugly speaks about peace for future generations, in the footsteps of Neville Chamberlain. The only result of Bibi’s efforts is more Jewish blood being spilt on our holy soil.
I do not blame Hamas or Abu Mazen for acts of terror. I blame Bibi. Instead of going to Washington in the futile hope that maybe the American President will save him from disaster, he should start acting like a Jewish leader. He should recognize the war that is being waged against his country and begin to take steps to win that war decisively as no Prime Minister has yet thought to do. If he had any respect for the needless victims of the war he has so far chosen not to even recognize, much less win, he would be home now planning how to win that war.
