Israel, Prelude to Redemption

The German Jew back in the early thirties was a loyal German citizen. He was the last person in the world to dream that Germany could ever become the hellish nightmare that it became. He may even have voted for Hitler, believing that he was good for Germany. He deliberately refused to believe his own ears when Hitler began to demonize the Jews. He was born in Germany and loved the country as his own. . . much like the American Jew loves America today.
But the Jew already has a country. He was Exiled from his homeland over two thousand years ago. He did the best he could to make his home in just about every country in the world. As much as he tried to become a part of the Exile, he was always looked upon as “different”. For a time he was welcome, but that welcome eventually wore thin and, in nearly every place he tried to make home, he was eventually expelled again. The Jew was destined to be different. He was destined to become the light unto the nations. But he can only accomplish this when he returns home and renews Jewish life in his ancient homeland. The yearning to come home has been a Jewish dream ever since we were Exiled. We prayed three times a day that G-d would return us home to Zion. Every time we ate our bread we thanked G-d for providing us with our sustenance, and for our Land, the Land of Israel.
How ironic that so many generations of Jews suffered in the Exile, yet clung to that dream with a fervor, while today, as we can see that ancient dream beginning to come true, we choose to close our eyes to miracles and cling to the false hope that we can live a good and happy life in the Exile!
The German Jew would have told you, “It can never happen here.” Just as today the American Jew will tell you that. He has a good job, a nice home, two cars in the garage and sends his children to the best schools.
Who could ask for more? Why should he think about an ancient dream when his life is better than a dream as it is? And when you look at Israel today it seems quite foolish to even think to move there. It is a country at war and surrounded by overwhelming enemies who seek its destruction. Iran has openly threatened to obliterate Israel with nuclear weapons. The current American leadership is courting the Arab world at Israel’s expense. It would certainly seem prudent for the American Jew to stay put, at least until things get better.
The problem is that while things are getting better in Israel, we refuse to notice that things are getting worse in the USA and other places all over the world. George W. was the first President of the United States, and it may well be that George W. was the Last President of the United States. The fact that Barak Obama has never proved that he is even a legitimate American citizen, much less that he is eligible to be President, has not prevented him from taking power. He seems to be currying favor with Arab nations and making changes which are harmful to the USA. He has plunged America more deeply into debt and is making changes which may well take away many of the freedoms that Americans enjoy. Yet the last person in the world to see the dangers coming is the Jew.
The experiment that was the United States of America may well be falling apart before our eyes. The concept that our leaders are the servants of the people may be reverting back to the concept that the people serve the dictator. There are forces in our world which seek to take control and rob us of our freedom.
The State of Israel, whether or not her leaders realize it, is part of a Divine Process to save all of Mankind from itself. There is only One true Leadership which knows better than we what it best for us. And that Leadership is the Living G-d of Creation— The G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He adopted the Jewish People to prove to the entire world that He is the Creator and it is He who rules the world.
The Bible clearly tells us that the Exile of the Jewish People, as long and difficult as it has been, will eventually come to an end. The Jewish People will be gathered from all over the world and returned to our ancient homeland. This is our destiny which no power on Earth can change. He made us a weak and ostracized people and scattered us all over the world in order to make the miracle of our return so much greater. How can anyone with eyes to see deny the fact that this miracle has already begun to unfold? It was impossible for a weak and scattered people, especially right after a full third of our population was annihilated by Hitler’s death factories, to defy the entire world and begin to return Jewish sovereignty to our ancient homeland. Yet, sixty two years ago we did just that. Clearly this was a supernatural event.
And today the nations of the world still seek to interfere with the Divine Process and demand that we stop building up our homeland.
World redemption is part of Biblical Destiny. It must happen. The rebirth of Jewish sovereignty in the Land of Israel was a miraculous event which should serve as proof that this process has already begun.
Many nations, throughout history, made the mistake of thinking that this tiny nation can be destroyed. It would seem that history has taught us nothing. Just plain logic should dictate the reality that opposing this process is opposing the G-d of Creation and inviting self destruction!
The very fact that any nation, especially at this time in history, would threaten Israel is, in and of itself, irrational. Much like the hardening of the heart of Pharaoh set the stage for the miracles in Egypt and the Red Sea, today the hardening of the hearts of the nations is setting the stage for even greater miracles. The nations are destined to gather together for the purpose of destroying Israel. When the tiny nation of Israel not only withstands their attack, but actually succeeds in destroying her enemies, the entire world will realize that there is a G-d.
So as we celebrate the sixty-second anniversary of our miraculous rebirth, let us thank G-d for His miracles. And let us all renew our faith in Jewish Destiny as outlined in our Torah. For the Jew it is time to come home. And for the Gentile it is time to recognize that standing with the Jewish nation is his only hope for a future.
